No more Licker Terrace
Today marks the end of my childhood. Well, the end of my childhood home at least.
Mom moves out of 21 Ricker Terrace today. And moves in to a wonderful new loftspace in Watertown. I am so happy for her, and so excited to see how the new place looks once she's had some time to put her design touches into it. It's in a great location, right on the Charles, (and mere blocks away from Haley, once her condo is ready).
True, I will miss the house I grew up in. The garden in front. The big deck in back. Memories of all of those summer-time keg parties... but since I haven't lived there for a decade (literally), I guess it hasn't been my home for a while already. I'm just having a hard time with the realization that the phone number my fingers have in their muscle memory will no longer Phone Home.
Take a look at some of the promo shots from the building. These aren't from Mom's apartment, but I'm sure they aren't too far off. Pretty amazing, right?

Wait until you see Bee's new digs everyone!!! Her personal touch is totally artistic/fanciful and sophisticated. - Auntie
The picture of Ricker Terrace brought tears to my eyes... I too will miss it, but it's a GREAT step for your mom. I'm in denial that you havn't lived there for a DECADE!
Leah,
I just got so teary seeing 21 Ricker. I know it has been hard for all of us in the family to say goodbye to the house where all of us grew up. You were just 10 months when we moved in. This October, it would have been 27 years!
Can't wait to have you come to the new loft. It's not warm & familiar, but it's an incredible place. And...how can it be bad to be within hollering distance of Haley?
Love you,
M.
Ohhhh 21 Ricker Terr. brought a little tear to my eye as well. I went home on fri to 12 Ricker Terr. and looked over to 21 and felt sad inside. There was alway a certain comfort seeing your moms car outside the house. Knowing that if I ever need someone to watch me cross the street at night that she would do it. Seth said the "Starlingers" have moved in. We met the husband, and he seemed nice, it's just not the same as the "Selwyn-Baker" house though. I'm happy for your mom, but it is hard to close the chapter of our childhood and so many days playing in the streets till it was dark, 4-square in the middle of the road (which couldn't happen anymore, because people fly down the street at 40 now-a-days) and the "meet you half way to talk" times. I will miss your family on the street, even though you and Michael (or I) haven't been there for years!
